Lorna
Chemistry TutorHi I’m Lorna, I tutor online via zoom and currently tutor about 10 students per week. Having graduated with a Biochemistry degree from Oxford University and a PGCE from Sussex University, I spent over 33 years teaching GCSE and A level chemistry in state and independent schools, mainly in Kent. I also worked as a tutor on intensive revision courses and for much of my career have supported individual students online and at home. My last post was teaching for an online school where the students were ‘at home’ but based all over the world. I love learning and completed a Masters in Education in Leadership and Management through the Open University in 2006, as well as a Diploma in Environmental Science. I am now learning Welsh, having moved to Wales from Kent in 2015. I now work part time as an online chemistry tutor, supporting students in their preparation for exams and generally helping them gain the skills they need to succeed at school and go onto their chosen course.
Teaching Overview
I taught in secondary high schools, grammar schools and comprehensives between 1983 and 2016. This also included some time teaching on an intensive revision college in Rochester and also for Interhigh, an online secondary high school. For the majority of this time I was teaching double award science, chemistry single award and A level chemistry. I have taught the Edexcel, OCR, AQA and WJEC syllabuses. Since November 2020 I tutor individual students online from home. This has included students from Russia in addition to those already living in the UK.
